In addition to his many fatherly roles in films, Robert De Niro loves parenthood in his own life. He added to his vast fatherhood experience a year ago when he welcomed a new child at the age of 79. De Niro recently opened up about his experience as a parent, discussing the pleasures and difficulties of the role.
De Niro talked about the immense joy his youngest daughter Gia brings into his life as he reflected on her first birthday. He talked passionately about the happiness Gia has given him in an interview with producer Jane Rosenthal, highlighting how she puts everything else in perspective.
De Niro said, “I’m an 80-year-old dad, and it’s great.” “When I look at her, everything I’m worried about or consumed with simply disappears.”
De Niro confirmed that Gia had celebrated her first birthday, saying, “Yes, she did. She had a little cake, it was very nice, sweet.” He went on to describe his daughter, saying, “Well, she’s pure joy. There’s nothing about her, there’s no judgment, there’s nothing, she just is what she is, and it’s just pure joy for God’s sake.”
De Niro, who will be 81 in the summer of 2024, is still active and dedicated to his roles. When asked about retirement and golf, he humorously said, “I’m not good at golf.” De Niro and his girlfriend Tiffany Chen welcomed Gia, his seventh child, in May 2023. His large family also includes twin sons Aaron and Julian, 28, with former girlfriend Toukie Smith; adult children Drena, 56, and Raphael, 47, with ex-wife Diahnne Abbott; Elliot, 26, and Helen, 12 with ex-wife Grace Hightower.
In his reflections on parenting, De Niro praised his partner for making it doable while acknowledging the difficulties, pointing out that experience doesn’t always make parenting easier. With the words, “I’m there, I support my girlfriend,” he highlighted their cooperation. However, she is the one who works. Additionally, we have assistance, which is crucial.
As he navigates fatherhood at an older age, De Niro continues to find fulfillment in his expanding family, appreciating the surprises and joys that each child brings into his life.
