Nonetheless, the Tully actor has criticised beauty standards, focusing on how younger women are praised for their youth more than older ones.
“It’s ironic that we’ve built the beauty world around 20-year-olds when they have no f—kin’ concept of wisdom, what life is about, having a few relationships under [their] belt and feeling hardships,
to grow into [their] skin and feel confident within [themselves] and to feel the value of who [they] are, not because of a man or something like that,” Charlize said to Elle in August 2014. “And I think that’s such a beautiful thing.”
She then addressed the double standard that women suffer as they age in compared to men.
“I think people say women come into their prime in their 40s,” the Oscar winner continued. “And then, for whatever reason, our society simply wants to go… It’s like a withered flower. We seem to wilt for some reason.
And men are like excellent wines: the more they age, the better they get. It’s such a misperception, and such a missed opportunity, since that’s when I believe women are truly in their sensuality.”
